Former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. on Friday said he will seek a national post in the 2022 elections.
Marcos, however, said he has not yet decided on what position he would run for.
“My plan is I will be a candidate next election. For what, we still have to decide,” Marcos said during a news forum hosted by the National Press Club.
Marcos is the son of the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. His sister, Imee, is an incumbent senator.
Marcos said former Senator Manny Villar had advised him against announcing the position he will run for too early.
“Whatever it is, national campaign ang papasukan ko,” Marcos said.
Marcos is currently contesting his loss in the 2016 vice presidential race against Vice President Lani Robredo.
He alleged that the victory of Robredo was marred by fraud.
The Supreme Court, sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal, is still hearing the case, the latest development being Marcos and Robredo’s submission of their comments to the results of a manual vote recount in three provinces chosen by the losing candidate.
The results of the recount, revision and re-appreciation of ballots from Camarines Sur, Iloilo, and Negros Oriental showed that Robredo’s lead over Marcos widened by more than 15,000 votes.
Marcos is seeking a review of the recount results.
Robredo has asked for an immediate dismissal of the case.
“Kung anong mangyari sa kaso, kung maganda ang resulta, maganda, makakatulong ‘yan. Pero in the meantime, we have to lay the groundwork for any national campaign,” the former senator said.
“A national campaign takes two to three years, really, to organize properly,” he also said.
