Vice President Sara Duterte’s Waning Ratings

on

While President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Junior considers his relationship with his predecessor, former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, “complicated,” it’s not the case with his vice president, Sara. Nothing has changed, says the President. The fact is, Ms. Duterte decided to just “work, and work, and work” as a member of the Cabinet. And Bongbong is glad that Ms. Duterte is now working to improve our educational system. Good to hear that.

When Mr. Bongbong Marcos left for the United States, he gave the reins of power not just to Ms. Duterte but to two others—Executive Secretary Bersamin and another Cabinet secretary—the first time he did in his three years in office. Huh? Whoa? I thought everything was alright between Mr. Marcos and Ms. Duterte.

And Ms. Duterte is not getting good ratings anymore. The recent polls show Ms. Sara Duterte’s numbers slowly going South. Is this because of her silence on the West Philippine Sea (WPS) issue?  Is it because she defends to the death, her friend, the fugitive dooms’ day preacher Apollo Quiboloy? Or her communications is just being mishandled? There are so many factors to consider.

Whatever it is, Ms. Sara is not anymore the top-of-the-mind choice for the presidency come 2028. It is now Senator Raffy Tulfo who some say, is clearly behaving like a buffoon. Some sectors of society are complaining that power may have already affected the mind of this member of the Senate.

Yet, the poll shows that Mr. Tulfo seems headed toward the presidency, a prospect that makes millions shudder. Mr. Tulfo tries to downplay his recent number one showing at the polls by saying that he is not interested in the presidency. At this early, Mr. Tulfo is not at all comfortable with this since he expects to be hit left and right by you know who–the troll armies of Mr. Duterte.

Anyway, three more years and we will know who gets the prized catch. Three years is still a very loooong time. There are still so many things and surprises to happen.
