Farewell, Car-Centric Era?

In his third podcast installment uploaded last Thursday, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said that the “car-centric” model of transportation has reached its limits.

PBBM said that the government is committed to building an efficient, modern network public transport system, in which millions of Filipinos will benefit from the project.

“Wala na, I think, ‘yung tawag mo ‘car-centric.’ We’ve taken it as far as we can,” the President said in the broadcast.

“We’ve seen the examples around the world – ‘yung mga lugar na talagang sumobra na ang traffic dahil lahat ng tao walang public transport, walang bus, walang tren, walang subway.” He added

In terms of building an efficient, modern public transport network, PBBM said the government is focus on expanding existing rail lines, rehabilitating underutilized assets, and introducing new infrastructure projects.

The President also pointed out that the ongoing construction of the Metro Manila Subway project will be a huge help to those who travels for work around the National Capital Region.

“Ngayon lang tayo magkakaroon ng subway. This is the first time that we have a subway here in the Philippines. These are solutions so that life will be a little easier, so that life will be more convenient,” he said.

Heavy traffic remains to be a pressing issue, that the President hopes to give a solution to ease life for millions of people who travels for work.

“Ang usually sa planning, dapat ang commute should not be more – or going to work at saka pag-uwi – dapat hindi lumagpas sa isang oras. That’s the goal,” PBBM said.
