Uniting the Greens in the Philippines

It has been an observation that the Philippines Green Movement is suffering from a stunted growth, its potency in terms of political power is so far midget. But that will now change with the initiative from Makakalikasan – Nature Party Philippines of having a united Greens. The Greens want to affect the policies of the nation on a grander scale. There are already wins in the Green Movement – in terms or Green policies – but surely those are not enough. We can do more and should do more.

Let me share with you the upcoming Greens Conclave for Unity. It will be held in Unit 10V, Impact Publishing Office, CyberOne Plaza, Eastwood City, Libis, Q.C. on July 13, 2024 from 09:00 AM to 03:00 PM. Here, the unity of the Green Movement will be discussed and hopefully, come up with a Unity Statement and continue with the fight for the Planet. In this Green Unity Conclave, we did not only invite the formed Greens political parties but all school based organizations – the next in line when it comes to protecting the earth and her ecology.

In this Meeting, we will reiterate that people, including the youth,  should not shy away from the political process of the country. They should participate and if possible actively and peacefully – as we do not want the destroyers of the earth to do business as usual. It is precisely the non-participation of the people that they are governed by lesser men than themselves. When I say lesser, not only in “education” but more so in morals.

In some studies in Europe, it has been proven that participating in the government made better results for the ecology and the earth in general. The individual responsibilities for the earth matter but only that the government can deliver more effectively. State policies falter sometimes, but this is where the researchers and think-tanks should focus on and help the executive, legislative and the judicial branches of the government. We are still hit and miss then adjust our approaches. We truly could not project the future with accuracy as life and ecology are very labyrinthine in short and in a more understandable words: super complex.

Going back to environmental conservation, the recent report of The Philippine Star that Maynilad will reforest around 450 hectares of land is a welcome development. Corporations, nowadays, wake up to a realization that those in the Green Movements are not the only well meaning people. Corporations are also forces for good although I prefer cooperatives for its very democratic principles. Having said that, the greening of our communities will happen sooner when we all do green things together. There are times when we are guilty of “sins” against Mother Nature but we should wake up to recompense for our shortcomings.

Going back to the Conclave of Greens in the Philippines, I hope the young people will be allowed by their parents to join in meaningful activities that will propel them to be part of communities that save the environment. It is also better for them to be in the government; especially, when they are honest and have good or higher moral standards. It is not enough to criticize the people in government but we also have to offer a different perspective that will save Mother Earth. Green Governance is the Green Movement’s offer. We will try to articulate this in the Conclave.

You are all invited to the Greens Conclave just provide us with RSVP and you also have to bring your own food. You can email us at natureparty.ph@gmail.com for your participation.
