Quo Vadis, Madam Vice president Sara Duterte?

on

It’s disheartening to witness some of our esteemed leaders placing personal bonds above the welfare and integrity of our nation. Take, for instance, the recent remarks made by Vice President Sara Duterte regarding Pastor Apollo Quiboloy’s legal troubles. Rather than upholding the principles of transparency and accountability, it appears that she is prioritizing loyalty to a friend over the sacred duty to uphold our institutions.

As ordinary Filipinos, we find it alarming that Vice President Duterte seems to be undermining the authority of our legislative bodies to hold individuals accountable for their actions. The issue at hand isn’t about passing judgment; it’s about seeking truth and safeguarding the vulnerable in our society.

Instead of dismissing legitimate inquiries, Quiboloy should embrace the opportunity to clear his name and defend his reputation. With his considerable resources, he has the means to address any misconceptions directly, without the need for intermediaries or expensive PR tactics.

History has shown us examples of leaders facing similar challenges with grace and dignity. Figures like Brother Velarde and Brother Eddie Villanueva confronted adversity head-on, earning respect through transparency and openness.

It’s regrettable that Vice President Duterte appears more concerned with protecting Quiboloy’s interests than addressing the concerns of potential victims within his congregation. As a national figure, she bears the responsibility to prioritize the well-being of all Filipinos over personal allegiances.

Imagine if the situation involved a friend with ties to a foreign power posing a threat to our national security. Would Vice President Duterte still prioritize friendship over the greater good of our nation? Her actions regarding Quiboloy raise troubling questions about her commitment to the principles of governance and accountability.

Let us not allow the bonds of friendship to cloud our judgment or compromise the values we hold dear. It’s time for Vice President Duterte to demonstrate true leadership by placing the interests of our nation above personal loyalties. Our country deserves nothing less.
