More explosives and firearms were seized by the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) on Saturday at a sugar mill in Santa Catalina town, in Negros Oriental that was reportedly owned by former governor Pryde Henry Teves.
In a statement, PNP-CIDG legal officer P/Col. Thomas Valmonte identified the items as: a piece of RPG ammunition without markings and serial number; an upper receiver for Colt caliber .45 handgun; a piece of lower receiver with serial number 502931; three improvised explosive devices (IED; black powder; assorted live ammunition; assorted fired cartridges and slugs; and assorted components for improvised IEDs
They were found buried some 10 feet under at a vacant lot in the said sugar mill.
Authorities used a backhoe to dig and find these items.
According to Valmonte the said items were recovered through the help of an informant.
Meanwhile, the CIDG said they are looking at terrorism as a possible angle in recovering the said firearms and explosives.
Valmonte said that Teves, the brother of suspended Negros Oriental 3rd District Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr., may have to be answerable for the confiscated firearms as he is the president and owner of the sugar mill.
CIDG also has a witness who could testify that Teves allegedly ordered to hide the firearms and explosives underground.
But the former governor denied that he had anything to do with the confiscated items, saying that he was ready to cooperate with authorities to trace their origins and their owners.
