Authorities seize cash, mobile phones and contraband in BU jail

The Philippine National Police through the National Capital Region Police Office together with the Bureau of Immigration conducted a surprise inspection of the Bureau of Immigration Warden Facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City on Tuesday, February 1, 2023.

The operation was launched by the joint elements of Bureau of Immigration led by PBGen Honorio Agnila (Ret); the Regional Special Operations Unit; the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit from the Regional Intelligence Division together with the Regional Mobile Force Battalion, NCRPO, and Intelligence Division, Bureau of Immigration.

The operation resulted to the confiscation of several pieces of prohibited items such as cellular phones, laptops, internet routers and cords, cigarettes, over PhP500,000.00 in cash and other prohibited items inside the facility.

A surprise drug test was also conducted to the personnel of Bureau of Immigration Detention Facility by the Forensic Group – Southern Team.

Police Major General Jonnel Estomo, NCRPO Regional Director emphasized that the operation was made in order to increase the detention’s security and orderliness at the facility.

Estomo said that this is one of the security measures being implemented to ensure the safety of all the personnel, occupants, visitors, detained/on-hold persons and tenants inside the camp.

Meanwhile, PNP Chief Police General Rodolfo Azurin Jr., expressed gratitude to the Bureau of Immigration for supporting the police operation that aims to ensure order inside jail facilities housed in PNP camps.
