The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has recently arrested a fugitive Korean national in Pasay City.

NBI Officer-In-Charge Eric Distor identified the Korean national as Kim Tae Young who was arrested in a joint operation of the NBI-Special Action Unit (NBI- SAU) and Bureau of Immigration – Fugitive Search Unit (BIU).

Distor said that,  on May 6, 2020, agents of the NBI-SAU in a joint operation with the Bureau of Customs (BOC) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG),  conducted operations on a certain warehouse in HK Sun Plaza, Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard, Pasay City.

Distor stressed that as a matter of procedure for foreign nationals of investigation, a verification was made with the BI and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, which showed that Young has derogatory record and charged as an undesirable alien.

The verification further revealed that Young has two warrants of arrest issued in Seoul, Korea on December 2, 2016 and June 25, 2016 for committing Special Extortion, Punishment of  Violences, etc. Act.

The extortion made by Young involved an amount of KR W 500,000,000.00 or P20,500,000.00, more or less, Distor stressed.

Distor said that on May 8, 2020, NBI  agents arrested Young and is currently detained at the NBI Detention Center./Stacy Ang
