MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has vowed  to donate  $100,000 to Australia which has been affected by bushfires recently, PRC chairman and Senator Richard Gordon said on Friday.

“We will be giving $100,000 dollars sa Australian Red Cross. At least meron tayong kusang loob,” Gordon said at a press conference.

Gordon said they will ask a representative from Australia to receive the donation on Monday.

According to reports, the  bushfires have killed at least 26 people, destroyed more than 2,000 homes, and scorched some eight million hectares (80,000 square kilometers) of land.

Gordon said it is not the first time the PRC donated to other organizations.

“Before in Japan, we donated $2.4 million in 2011 when they were hit by tsunami,” he said.

Gordon said the PRC also donated $37,000 to Nepal in 2015; $25,000 to Gaza in 2014; $15,000 to Myanmar and $20,000 to China in 2008; $85,000 to Indonesia and $10,000 to Pakistan in 2006; and $25,000 to United States in 2005. (Stacy Ang/JGo/CurrentPH.com)
