MANILA, Philippines — President Duterte has assured that he will help resolve in the event of a possible term-sharing problem between House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco.

The President said it would be a problem if Cayetano would not honor the term-sharing agreement.

“I was there when we agreed, three of us, and I announced it after. He does not want to honor it. That’s his problem, “the President said.

“It is going to be a problem so we will solve the problem when we are there. Wala pa man, it remains to be hypothetical, ”he added.

Cayetano’s allies indicated that because of high speaker ratings they would be better able to support him as leader of the Chamber. Cayetano, Velasco and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez had previously expressed his desire to be a speaker until the President intervened and created a term-sharing between Cayetano and Velasco in which Cayetano’s first 15 months and the remaining 21 months in the 18th Congress were for Velasco.
