4-day work week filed in Congress

MANILA, Philippines — A resolution has been filed for a “four-day work week” in the government and the private sector.

A House resolution filed by Cavite Rep. Elpidio Barzaga, proposes for a “Four Day Work Week” be implemented on an experimental basis due to the upcoming holiday season and SEA Games from November 30 to December 11, 2019.

Barzaga said the resolution intends to ease the flow of traffic causing stress, anxiety, low productivity, exposure to high carbon emission, high gas consumption due to long-distance travel from families of every Filipino.

The congressman clarified that although the bills in the House regarding the “four-day work week” are still pending at the committee level and may be delayed before they are approved, he has already filed the resolution for speedy implementation.

Under the proposal, government employees will come in from Monday to Thursday from 7am to 6pm while those in private will be from Tuesday to Friday for up to 10 hours to complete 40 hours of work per week. (Gelica Paulo/IAMIGO/CNS)
