Very low chances of sexually transmitted dengue — DOH secretary

on

Department of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said on Monday that the report about sexually transmitted case of dengue in Spain was not a cause for concern for Filipino, as he maintained that the likehood of spreading the mosquito borne disease through sex was very low.

“The chance of its spreading via that route is very low. It’s incidental to the main issue of unprotected sex.” the health secretary said.

Duque also said that he is not worried about the epidemic via that route rather than worried about the lack of protection.

According to Spanish health authorities, a 41 year old man in Madrid contracted a dengue although he had not traveled to a country where it is endemic.

However, he had sex with his male partner who reportedly had symptoms of dengue following a trip in Cuba. (Cate Pallarco)
