UST now in solo third after UAAP clash with UP

MANILA, Philippines — The University of Santo Thomas scored a repeat victory over the University of the Philippines, on Wednesday, 17 October 2019, to grab solo third  in the 81st UAAP men’s basketball tournament.

Renzo Subido and Brent Paraiso sparked the Growling Tigers’ offensive assault  en route to a resounding 84-78 victory over the Fighting Maroons.

Subido poured 13 points, five assists, and five rebounds while Paraiso had six markers and four rebounds as UST grabbed solo third with a 6-5 win-loss record right behind the Fighting Maroons who have a 6-4 card at the second spot.

On the other hand, Kobe Paras who sustained  a shoulder injury in the first half, put in 18 points for the Fighting Maroons. He also had  five rebounds, and two assists while Jun Manzo had 12 markers, seven assists and four boards.

Paras went back in the second half to help the Fighting Maroons to fight back against the Tigers but UST’s veteran guard Subido stepped up and fired a crucial three-pointer over Juan Gomez De Liano for an 82-78 lead with 26.7 ticks to go on the shot clock.

Ateneo de Manila University stays on top and is assured a Final 4 appearance. The Blue Eagles have a clean 11-0 standing. (Lloyd Tagbago)
