TORONTO, Canada— Philippine tennis star Alex Eala continued her impressive run on the WTA Tour after defeating American Alycia Parks, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, in the second round of the National Bank Open in Toronto on Thursday

Fresh off capturing her historic first WTA singles title at the Washington Open earlier this week, Eala carried her momentum into Toronto with a dominant opening set, breaking Parks multiple times to take it 6-1.

Parks, known for her powerful serve, fought back in the second set to level the match after capitalizing on key service games and forcing a deciding third set.

The 21-year-old Filipina quickly regained control in the decider, using her aggressive baseline play and consistent returns to break Parks’ serve twice before sealing the victory, 6-2.

The win sends the world No. 20 into the third round of the WTA 1000 tournament, extending a remarkable stretch that has seen her claim her maiden WTA title in Washington and continue her rise among the world’s top players.

The victory also served as redemption for Eala, who lost to Parks in three sets in the opening round of this year’s Australian Open. This time, the Filipina turned the tables with a composed performance to advance in one of the tour’s premier hard-court events.

Eala now moves on to the third round as she builds momentum ahead of the US Open, where she hopes to continue the breakthrough season that has made her one of the fastest-rising stars in women’s tennis.
