Action Plan Against NLEX Flood

– Gillian Paul Abayon

On Saturday, August 2, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and representatives of NLEX Corps., Valenzuela City and Meycauayan, Bulacan held a meeting to discuss an action plan regarding parts of NLEX (North Luzon Expressway) which was flooded because of the recent rains due to Tropical Cyclone Crising, and the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.

According to Transportation Secretary Vivencio “Vince” Dizon, they already designated the action plan among the agencies, with 10 waterways set to be cleaned.

“Magsasama sama kami nun, magtutulungan kami para mapaluwag na ‘yung waterway dun para kahit papaano, kung magbabaha man o matindi talaga ‘yung ulan, eh hindi na katulad nung dati”. Dizon said

The project is set to start this week from addressing the drainage system and improving waterways in the Valenzuela and Bulacan areas to prevent another flood scenario that caused major traffic.

Dizon expects flood to be prevented, if not, lessen due to the continuous improving of waterways which will take two to three weeks.

NLEX Corp. said it is working closely with LGUs and different Government agencies to provide long-term solutions.
