The Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) have launched a program that will facilitate the renewal of driver’s license for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) living or working abroad.

LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary (ASEC) Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said the program is aimed at streamlining the process for the online renewal of driver’s license of Filipinos overseas under the “Pinabilis sa Bagong Bayani ang Magkalisensya”, or the LTO PBBM Project. “This is initiative is another product of the instruction of our President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. not only to make the government services fast and comfortable to all Filipinos, whether in the Philippines or in abroad, but also in his directive to go digital to further bring government services closer to the people,” said ASEC Mendoza.

He said the LTO PBBM Project as a result of the discussion between Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime J. Bautista and DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac. During the launching of the program that coincides with the Migrant Workers Day celebrations at the DMW Office in Mandaluyong City, Secretary Cacdac has expressed gratitude to Secretary Bautista and ASEC Mendoza for finding ways to improve the services to the Filipino migrant workers.

Secretary Cacdac cited the importance of driver’s license in some of the jobs of the Filipinos abroad. ASEC Mendoza said the LTO PBBM Project will offer a convenient means for Filipinos living or working abroad to renew their driver’s licenses without the need to physically appear in the LTO.

He explained that the project will streamline the renewal process and to make it easier for overseas Filipinos to maintain a valid Philippine driver’s license. “This project will save time and reduce the financial burden on Filipinos living or working abroad who might otherwise need to travel back to the Philippines to renew their driver’s license,” said ASEC Mendoza.

“This is also aimed at aligning with global trends in e-governance and modernizing government services by offering online license renewal, reflecting a commitment to digital transformation,” he added. #
