Today, the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) insists that it has no dredging or government seabed quarrying operations in the municipal waters off the town of Rosario in Cavite.
In an interview, Assistant General Manager (AGM) Joseph Literal said that among the thousands of hectares allowed by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for dredging operations in the province of Cavite, only nine thousand hectares are being operated upon by the PRA and Rosario Cavite is not one of them.
PRA says it operates government seabed quarrying operations, only in the towns of Tanza, Naic and Ternate.
Rosario, according to Literal, is within the mining concession area operated by Vil Mining, a company that supplies sand to the reclamation project in Bulacan.
People in these communities along the coasts of these towns under the PRA’s scope are already enjoying livelihood assistance since the beginning of their operations.
News on quarrying activities in Rosario Cavite came into the spotlight after several fisherfolk communities complained about dredging operations in their respective areas. The ongoing Manila bay reclamation has attracted widespread support from the people due to its potential to transform the Philippines as an investment magnet in the region.
