A motor tanker with hundreds of thousand of liters on industrialized fuel oil tank sank off the waters of Romblon early Tuesday morning.
According Dr. Joselito Sinocruz, Batangas Port manager said that MT Princess Empress sank off Tablas Island.
A passing foreign vessel was able to rescue all the 20 people on board the tanker.
“Ang tripulante nailigtas lahat, 20 katao kasama ‘yung kapitan [all the 20 crew members, including the captain, were rescued],” he said.
Sinocruz said that all crew members were taken to Subic.
According to the report, the tanker was on its way to Iloilo.
It was carrying 800,000 liters of industrialized fuel oil, according to the MT Princess Empress.
The report said that the incident occurred at about 2 a.m. due to strong waves.
Sinocruz said that they have yet to receive information if there was an oil spill, but the incident has already been reported to the Philippine Coast Guard for proper action.
