The Philippines remains as having one of the most affordable data across the globe, a statement from Smart Communications said.
According to the statement, the cost of mobile data in the Philippines is less than the world average, as they quoted the latest Digital 2023 Global Overview Report, an annual report on worldwide social media and digital trends.
According to the study, which included information from Meltwater, We Are Social and cable.co.uk, among other sources, the global average price of 1 gigabyte of mobile data is US$3.12 (around Php170*).
However, in the Philippines, it is way cheaper at about $0.52 (around P28).
But according to Smart, they can offer a more affordable and lower package for the same data service.
The statement said that Smart Communications and TNT are offering more affordable data packages to help Filipinos amid the rising inflation that affected the population.
“In choosing a service, Filipinos look at two things–network quality and value for money. TNT, powered by Smart, offers both, as we continue to rollout more data packages at affordable price points, so that our subscribers can maximize the Best Mobile Network in the country,” Francis Flores, SVP and Head of Consumer Business Group – Individual at PLDT’s wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) said.
The company said that recently, TNT launched “Sulit Affordaloads,” a line-up of budget-friendly data, calls and texts for as low as P10 ($0.18) for three days—or effectively P3.33 ($0.07) a day.
This includes offers such as FB10, which comes with unlimited access to Facebook and Facebook Messenger for 3 days , and ML10, which comes with 1GB data for Mobile Legends Bang Bang valid for 3 days, keeping budget-conscious customers connected and entertained.
“In this challenging landscape, we understand the importance of saya (joy), especially to our customers’ well-being and mental health. Through Affordaloads we are making digital connectivity affordable and accessible, keeping more Filipinos connected, entertained, and able to find joy and happiness despite these trying times,” Flores added.
On top of value-packed offers and superior network experience, Smart and TNT have also continued their nationwide efforts to assist their customers in registering their SIMs in compliance with the SIM Registration Law, especially in far-flung areas where affordable and reliable mobile services are crucial to keep communities connected.
With these efforts, more than 16 million Smart and TNT prepaid and postpaid subscribers have registered their SIMs since the start of the nationwide SIM registration in December.
Enabling these initiatives is Smart’s wireless network, which has been cited as the Philippines’ Best Mobile Network by Ookla, the global leader in mobile and broadband network intelligence for Q1-Q2 and Q3-Q4 2022. To earn this citation, Smart won both the Fastest Mobile Network and Best Mobile Coverage awards in the same period.
