PNP: Cops in missing sabungeros case pleaded not guilty

The Philippine National Police said that the three cop suspects who were being charged in the alleged abduction of e-sabong master agent Ricardo Lasco has entered a not guilty plea to the accusations.

PNP public information office chief Police Colonel Redrico Maranan said at the Laging Handa Public Breifing that the suspects had undergone arraignment. The three had surrendered earlier to the PNP.

“Sa isang kaso natin, kung saan ang suspek dito ay mga pulis na sumuko po nitong mga nakaraang linggo sa ating kapulisyahan, sila naman po ay na-arraign na at nag-enter po sila ng not guilty plea,” he said.

It will be recalled that in January, Police Patrolman Rigel Brosas and Police Staff Sergeant Daryl Paghangaan presented themselves to the PNP-Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group Team 4-A.

On the other hand, former Police Corporal Roy Navarete voluntarily surrendered at the Calauan Municipal Police Station in Laguna.

The three were being accused in the kidnapping, serious illegal detention, and robbery with violence charges in connection with the alleged kidnapping of Lasco.

According to initial investigations, Lasco was illegally arrested at his house in Laguna.

It was stated that the police officers who allegedly pretended to be members of the National Bureau of Investigation made the arrest on August 2021.

He has gone missing since then.

A total of 34 sabungeros had been missing and the case is being investigated.
