The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) noted various power interruptions, class suspensions, and hospital evacuation after a magnitude 6 earthquake struck Batuan, Masbate on early Thursday.
According to the OCD power in Masbate and Ticao Island were interrupted, as work and class schedules were likewise suspended.
Meanwhile, the patients of the Masbate Provincial Hospital were taken outside and were put in inside tents outside the facility. No patients were reported hurt.
So far, the OCD said that there had been no major damage but concerned authorities are conducting assessment, coordination, and monitoring on the earthquake’s impact.
The OCD said that the public should exercise “duck, cover, and hold” protocols.
It will be recalled that the magnitude 6.0 earthquake occurred southwest of Batuan at 2:10 a.m. on Thursday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.
The quake was tectonic in origin with a depth of 10 kilometers.
