SIM Registration breaches 30M

The Department of Information and Technology (DICT) on Wednesday said that the subscriber identification module (SIM) card registration has breached more than 30 million as of Tuesday, February 7, 2023.

According to the DICT, the SIM Registration has reached 30,010,694 SIMs, as of 11:59 PM.

This is based on the records provided by the public telecommunication entities (PTEs). The said number represents 17.76% of the 168,977,773 million subscribers nationwide.

Smart Communications Inc. reported a total of 15,475,120 SIMs registered, which is 22.76% of Smart’s 67,995,734 subscribers. Globe Telecom Inc. recorded 12,203,967 registered — 13.89% of its 87,873,936 subscribers. Meanwhile, DITO Telecommunity Corp. reported a total of 2,331,607 SIMs registered or 17.79% of its 13,108,103 subscribers.

“We are seeing good progress in terms of the registered subscribers, and we look forward to how this will translate to a safer and more secure digital communications in the coming days,” DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy said.

In a statement, the DICT Davao Region joined hands with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) 11 to help people in remote areas at the Municipality of Laak, Davao de Oro with their SIM registration.

Meanwhile, more SIM Registration rollout in remote areas are expected to commence in 15 identified locations in different provinces.

For today, February 9, 2023, among the schedules include: City of Dapitan, Zamboanga del Norte

Bauang, La Union – People’s Hall, MSWD Office; Echague, Isabela – Evacuation Center Municipal Compound, Brgy. San Fabian; San Simon, Pampanga – Municipal Covered Court

Agoncillo, Batangas – Agoncillo Municipal Covered Court; Libmanan, Camarines Sur – Libmanan Sports Complex; Abuyog, Leyte – Brgy. Nalibunan Covered Court; Salay, Misamis Oriental – Senator Ernesto Herrera Gymnasium, Brgy. Poblacion; La Paz, Agusan del Sur – Municipal Gym, Poblacion; and Bauko, Mountain Province – Municipal Open Court, Brgy. Abatan

For February 10, it is at Pandan, Antique – Pandan Sports Complex; City of Bogo, Cebu – City Sports Complex, Don Celestino Martinez Sr. Sports & Cultural Center (Complex), Brgy. Taytayan; and at Padada, Davao del Sur, ABC Covered Court;

DICT Spokesperson and Undersecretary Anna Mae Yu Lamentillo reiterated the importance of SIM Registration roll out in the countryside, where Filipinos may need assistance with the registration process.

“The SIM registration in remote areas is intended to ensure that we are reaching out in areas with limited telecommunication or internet access to assist them in registering their SIMs. The DICT’s Free Wi-Fi sites will serve as the hubs for SIM registration in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs),” Lamentillo said.

Meanwhile, digital solutions provider Globe said on Wednesday that in a bid to further entice and ensure a smooth and better flow of the subscriber identification module registration, they deployed more assistance booths across the country to aide those having a hard time gaining access online.

In a statement, Globe said that they are targeting remote areas where the SIM registration has slowed down or is scarce due to internet connection problems or people unsure on how to go about the registration.

Globe said that they will be assisted by local governments and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with the law.

The deadline for the SIM registration is on April 26, 2023.

According to Globe those who need assistance in their registration only need to visit their booths.

For today, February 9, 2023, they will have booths as Bauang, La Union (People’s Hall, MSWD Office); Echague, Isabela (Evacuation Center, Municipal Compound, Brgy. On Wednesday, Sim Card registration booths were opened in Magpet, Cotabato (Municipal Gym).

“We are committed to ensuring that every customer can access SIM registration support whether they prefer to do it online or offline. We’re working hand-in-hand with the government to provide on-ground assistance in areas where our customers need us most,” said Cleo Santos, Head of Globe’s Channel Management Group.
