Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo is no longer interested in forming a united front for the opposition that would have a chance of denying whoever the Duterte administration fields in 2022 from winning.

Robredo during a virtual conference on Friday said that she would focus on uniting Filipinos.

“It should not be just for the sake of unity but for united aspirations and how we can gear the country together,” she said.

Robredo tried to unite the opposition weeks before the filing of candidacies started last October 1. Among those she or her camp reportedly talked with were Senators Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao and Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, and Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso. The three are running under the respective political parties for president in 2022

Robredo is running for president under the 1Sambayan coaltion with Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan as her vice president.

The vice president’s trying to unite the opposition and her recent statements on for running in 2022 got the ire of Domagoso, who in Friday also questioned Robredo’s real intent for seeking the country’s highest post.

“Is that the only reason why she is running? How about us Filipinos. We don’t have work. Many Filipinos do not have enough food to eat and are facing a bleak future. Marcos again?” Domagoso said, referring to Robredo saying she was running to prevent Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. from winning in 2022.
