`Right after she declared her intention to run for president in 2022, Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo immediately filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) on Thursday afternoon at the Commission on Elections satellite office at the Harbor Garden Tent of Sofitel Hotel in Pasay City.
Robredo said she will be running under the opposition coalition 1Sambayan that earlier endorsed her as its presidential candidate for 2022.
The vice president said that the two primary factors she had to weigh before running for president is her desire to stop the Marcoses from returning to power, and to prevent a government similar to the Duterte administration.
Her announcement on Thursday ended all doubts on whether she will run for president or lend support to another presidential aspirants.
“I will go into battle, we will go into battle. I am readying myself as presidential candidate for 2022,” she said in Filipino.
Robredo added she has trust in her supporters.
“I feel the trust you have given to me…..let us awaken our strength, and there will be those who will stand among those beside you,” she said in Filipino.
“Now we will go into a bigger battle…..I am confident, I will give my all out strength, not only for the polls, but even the last of my days,” Robredo added in Filipino.
The vice president said she envisions a Philippines where every Filipino will have equal opportunities.
