Bising to bring rains in parts of Bicol, Visayas

Typhoon Bising will bring moderate to heavy rains in parts of the Visayas and Bicol region as it maintained its strength as of early Sunday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Bising was moving northwestward at 15 kph and maintained its maximum sustained winds of 215 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to  265 kph.

“Today (Sunday), the rain bands of Typhoon “Bising” will bring moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over Eastern Visayas and Bicol Region,” PAGASA said.

“Tomorrow (April 19), moderate to heavy with at times intense rains will be experienced over Bicol Region, Northern Samar, Samar, and Eastern Samar,” it added.

PAGASA said that given Bising’s relatively unpredictable path, it could even bring rains to parts of Southern Luzon tomorrow.

“Considering the uncertainty in the track forecast of the typhoon, a westward shift in the current forecast track may result in potentially significant impacts over the eastern portions of Southern Luzon and Visayas. The possibility of a close approach scenario is not ruled out,” PAGASA added.

For today, the weather bureau said Bising can cause flooding, including flashfloods, and rain-induced landslides in the areas it will affect.

Also, the typhoon will cause very rough to very high seas over the northern and eastern seaboard of Eastern Visayas, rough to very high seas over the eastern seaboard of Luzon, and rough to very rough seas over the eastern seaboard of Caraga.

“Sea travel is risky for all types of seacrafts over these waters,” PAGASA said.
