The group that has been monitoring the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic in the country has warned of Covid-19 cases reaching 16,000 per day by mid April if the current trend is left unchecked.

Guido David of OCTA Research disclosed that there are now 25 cities that have seen increases in Covid-19 cases.

“It’s not only happening in [Metro Manila], but [also] in parts of Rizal and parts of Cavite,” he said.

Leading the list is Quezon City, which has the highest number of new cases between March 10 and 16 or an increase of 93 percent from its daily average recorded in the previous week, David said.

Also in the list are the cities of Manila, Pasay, Makati and Cebu.

In Calabarzon, Octa Research said there was an increasing trend in Bacoor City and Imus City in Cavite, where 52 percent and 92 percent increases in Covid-19 cases were observed from last week, respectively.

In Dasmariñas City also in Cavite, the daily average case has spiked to 34 for a 138-percent increase from last week’s figures.

Also in Calabarzon, Antipolo City logged 50 new cases daily for an increase of 78 percent, and Cainta had 49 new cases daily for a 128-percent jump.

In Santiago, Isabela, daily Covid-19 cases averaged 35 from almost none last week.

Octa Research is still sticking to its warning that daily Covid-19 cases nationwide can reach 6,000 by April 1 and worsen to 16,000 per day April 16.

Over the last few days, the Department of Health has been recording 4,000 to 5,000 cases of new Covid-29 cases daily.
