The mayor of Calapan City blasted on Saturday Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Debold Sinas for his “reckless behavior” in not complying with health protocols when he made an official visit to Oriental Mindoro last Thursday.
Sinas, who met with police and officials in Oriental Mindoro, later tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), which meant he was already a carrier of the virus when he visited the province although he was asymptomatic.
Calapan Mayor Arnan Panaligan said in a Facebook thread “He (Sinas) should be made to answer and be held responsible for his reckless behavior.”
“He was tested before he flew here. It is SOP (standard operating procedure) that when one is tested, he must first go on quarantine and wait for the result. He failed to do that. When he came here, he did not tell us that he was waiting for the test result. Thus he was allowed entry,” Panaligan said.
Sinas, who came under fire for throwing a party with his fellow policemen during the start of the lockdowns to contain Covid-19, did not pass through the Oriental Mindoro pier in Calapan where health clearances are issued and instead. The PNP chief arrived via helicopter in the province.
The mayor added that officials at the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Malacañang should reprimand Sinas.
“His superiors at DILG and Malacañang must take action against him,” Panaligan said.
