PNP says Dacera case ‘closed’ with arrest, indictment of 3 suspects

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Monday that the case of the 23-year old Christine Angelica Dacera, who was found dead in a hotel room last January 1, is now “solved” with the arrest and indictment of at least three of the 12 suspects.

PNP chief Gen. Debold Sinas said in a report to Interior Secretary Eduardo Año that the three suspects were charged with rape with homicide before the Makati City Prosecutor’s Office.

The three suspects are John Pascual Dela Serna 3rd, 27, Rommel Daluro Galido, 29, and John Paul Reyes Halili, 25.

Nine other suspects who were with the group that celebrated New Year’s Day with the victim remain at large, Sinas said.

Makati City police chief Col. Harold Depositar said earlier that of the 12 people who were with Dacera at the hotel, only three were her friends or known to her.

“Only three of them were Dacera’s friends. The others were practically strangers to her, as they were only known to her three friends,” Depositar said.

He added that initial police investigation showed Dacera was raped and beaten.

Initial investigation also showed that Dacera was discovered laying down in the bathtub at room 2209 of the City Garden Grand Hotel by her friend, Rommel Galida, at 12:30 pm on January 1, 2020.

Galida claimed he repeatedly tried to wake up the victim, but was alarmed when he did not get any response. He then contacted two of their friends, Gregorio Angelo de Guzman and Dela Cerna, who was among the three arrested. CURRENTPH
