Local fuel prices are set for a mixed adjustment next week, according to the Department of Energy (DOE).
Based on the first four days of global trading:
-
Diesel: Expected price cut of ₱1.00/liter
-
Gasoline: Expected price hike of ₱1.50/liter
-
Kerosene: Expected price hike of ₱2.00/liter
DOE Oil Industry Management Bureau Director Rino Abad noted that despite recent global price increases, diesel prices are still benefiting from a carry-over effect from last week’s steep ₱7.57/liter rollback. Conversely, global increases for gasoline and kerosene have already surpassed previous price drops.
Potential Price Hikes in October The DOE warned of upward price pressure throughout October after China announced a temporary suspension of refined product exports to Asia-Pacific buyers. Abad explained that China’s export halt could trigger a regional supply squeeze, forcing countries to source fuel from more distant markets like North America or Australia, which will add shipping costs and push retail prices higher.
