The House of Representatives has confirmed on Sunday another case of COVID-19 among its personnel, bringing the total number of its staff who have been infected to 11.

In a statement, House Secretary General Jose Luis Montales said a House employee assigned at the Committee on Justice tested positive for COVID- 19 on Sunday.

The said employee last went to the Batasan Pambansa on June 24 to pick up some materials, Montales said.

On June 15, she attended a brief meeting with her peers in the Committee on Justice, Montales said.

“We remind everyone to be extra cautious. With the lifting of restrictions on the movement of people and the opening of economy, we are exposed to higher risk when we go outside of our homes,” Montales said.

On the other hand, 50 more Filipinos abroad have contracted the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), raising the total of infections among overseas Philippine nationals to 8,679, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Sunday.

Of the total cases, 2,901 are active while majority, 5,201, have recovered, and 577 others succumbed to the disease.

These cases are from 59 countries and regions.

The breakdown by region of those undergoing treatment is as follows: 127 in the Asia Pacific; 472 in Europe; 2,183 in the Middle East and Africa; and 119 in the Americas.

The Philippines on Saturday reported its second largest spike of 1,494 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, raising its total to 41,830. Of this figure, the country tallied 11,453 recoveries and 1,290 deaths.

The DFA on Sunday said its Office of Consular Affairs in Aseana, Parañaque City and its consular office in Alabang Town Center will be closed on Monday, July 6, for disinfection.

Those who have prior appointments and schedules will be accommodated “as soon as these offices resume operations,” the DFA said in a statement.

Passports may be claimed after the offices reopen.

The DFA advised the public to await its announcement on the offices’ reopening./Stacy Ang
