Novel Coronavirus claims life of Filipino Sinologist


Foremost Filipino Sinologist Dr. Aileeen Baviera of the University of the Philippines today succumbed to pneumonia after contracting the virulent strain of the corona virus.

She just came back from Paris and was hospitalized and admitted at the San Lazaro Hospital after exhibiting symptoms of the COVID-19 infestation. Several days later, her health deteriorated.

Baviera used to head the Asian Center and the Center for International Relations and Strategic Studies, the think tank group of the Foreign Service Institute of the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Most of her work centered on China and its relations with ASEAN. She was one of those who opposed government approach to the issue on the West Philippine Sea.

She completed her phd and masters at the University of the Philippines in Diliman.
