Pinoy Weightlifter John Fabuar Ceniza bags bronze in Rome World Cup

MANILA, Philippines — John Fabuar Ceniza solidified his Tokyo Olympics bid after winning a bronze medal in the men’s 61kg after lifting 269kg in Total result at 2020 Weightlifting Roma World Cup held in Italy.

The Cebuano weightlifter, who won a silver in the recent Southeast Asian Games, had a total lift of 269 kgs broken down into 117 in the snatch and 152 in the clean jerk, just enough to snatch a bronze medal.

The gold was bagged by Kim Tuan Thach of Vietnam who had a total lift of 288-kgs while Shota Mishvelidge of Georgia won the silver with a total lift of 286.

Ceniza is one of the eight Filipinos who competed in the event, including Hidilyn Diaz, who won 3 gold medals on Tuesday, Kristel Macrohon, Elreen Ann Ando, Margaret Colonia, Mary Rose Diaz, and Nestor Colonia.

The top 20 ranked weightlifters in the world will get a chance to compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics that is set to happen later this year.
