MANILA, Philippines – Taal volcanic eruption still proved to be the top choice of editors as it landed on the majority of the front pages of major national dailies as banner stories.
Save for the Philippine Daily Inquirer and Daily Tribune, the rest namely Philippine Star, Manila Bulletin, Manila Times, Manila Standard, Malaya and Business Mirror all splattered Taal crisis-related stories on the front pages.
The Inquirer and Daily Tribune chose stories on the International Criminal Court imbroglio involving President Duterte even as the lawyer already withdrew his complaint with the ICC on alleged human abuses committed by Duterte’s war on drugs.
In withdrawing his case with the ICC, lawyer Jude Sabio said he was only being used by the opposition Liberal Party which is accordingly shortchanging him on their agreed amount.
Here is a quick look in today’s front pages of major, mainstream dailies:
INQUIRER – ICC prosecutor: Probe of Du30 can’t be stopped
PHILIPPINE STAR – Forced evacuation set in 12 towns, 2 cities
MANILA BULLETIN – Explosive Taal eruption imminent
DAILY TRIBUNE – ‘No ICC case to begin with’
