Davao Occidental – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology Philvolcs) has reported on Thursday evening that a 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck Davao Occidental.
The tectonic tremor occurred at 8:24 p.m., some 49 kilometers southeast of Jose Abad Santos town. It had a depth of 54 kilometers.
Intensity 3, described by Phivolcs as “weak,” was recorded in Glan, Malapatan and Alabel, Sarangani.
Intensity 2 was also felt in General Santos City; Koronadal City and Tampakan, South Cotabato.
Instrumental intensities were recorded in the following areas:
Intensity 4 – Malungon, Sarangani
Intensity 2 – General Santos City; Tupi, South Cotabato; Kiamba, Sarangani
Intensity 1 – Gingoog City
The recorded quakes did not accordingly cause any damage but aftershocks are expected the Phivolcs said.
In October, a string of powerful temblors struck Mindanao, leaving several casualties while hundreds of injuries and structures destroyed and damaged. (Marian Sinamban/IAMIGO/CNS)
