MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte has signed a bill into law seeking to postpone the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.

The ceremonial signing was made in Malacañang Tuesday night and with it, elections for Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials has been moved to December 2022.

The bill postponing the elections is now otherwise known as Republic Act Number 11462.

Accordingly, the barangay and SK officials will have ample opportunity to implement policies and programs that have delayed the passage of the budget.

And they are to remain in office unless they are suspended or removed from office.

It may be recalled that this is the third time the Barangay and SK elections have been canceled since President Duterte took office in 2016.

The previous SK and Barangay elections took place in May 2018. (Marian Sinampan/IAMIGO/CNS)
