Bong Go supports an increase in salary of nurses

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Bong Go accordingly supports a Supreme Court ruling enforcing Section 32 of Republic Act 9173 or the “Philippine Nursing Act of 2002” for the minimum base pay of nurses in public health institutions should not be less than the salary Grade 15.
“Importante po sa atin ang mga nurses at suportado natin ang kanilang pagkapanalo sa Supreme Court,” Go said in a Senate plenary deliberation on the Department of Health’s (DOH) budget next year.

However, Go said it has not yet been included in the health department’s 2020 budget because the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and the DOH is still studying whether sufficient funds will be allocated here.

Go noted that the implementation of the High Court ruling is worth P3.17 billion annually based on the current salary schedule.

“For now, uunahin muna natin ang Salary Standardization 5 in which kasama ang mga nurses at meron na pong pwedeng pagkukunan ng pondo,” Go said.

Go filed in July the Senate Bill (SB) 200 or the “Act Modifying the Salary Schedule for Civilian Government Personnel,” a proposal aimed at raising the salaries of government workers, including nurses and teachers. (Gelica Paulo/IAMIGO/CNS)
