ILOILO CITY –– The Supreme Court (SC) has upheld the libel conviction of Iloilo blogger and former provincial administrator Manuel “Kid” Mejorada over social media posts accusing Sen. Franklin Drilon of bribery on some projects

In a resolution released on September 2, the SC’s Special Second Division rejected Mejorada’s motion for reconsideration on the High Court’s decision of June 10 affirming a Court of Appeals ruling on his case.

The Court of Appeals upheld Mejorada’s 2017 conviction by the Regional Trial Court of Pasay City (RTC) for four libel charges against his social media and blog posts accusing Drilon of involvement in alleged irregularities in Iloilo infrastructure projects.

The RTC of Pasay City sentenced Mejorada to a prison term of at least two years, four months and one day to a maximum of four years and two months.

The High Court stated in its resolution dismissing Mejorada’s appeal that there was “no substantial argument to justify the consideration sought.”

It said the High Court would not entertain any further pleadings and ordered the final judgment on the case to be issued. (Cate Pallarco/IAMIGO/CNS)
