on

Various groups today held several indignation runs to mark the 1,000th day incarceration of Senator Leila de Lima.

These indignation runs aim to highlight the plight of De lima, whom many of her friends and political supporters describe as a human rights violation.

In Quezon City, Representative Kit Belmonte, and former Magdalo representative Gary Alejano together with the spokesperson of Vice President Leni Robredo led several hundreds in an indignation run in Quezon City.  It began at the Commission on Human Rights inside the UP campus in Diliman and ended at 8am at the UP Chapel with a short speech by former president Benigno S. Aquino III.

Another group, this time led by Senator de Lima’s brother Vicboy, who is an experienced runner, began their 45 kilometer run last 1am  in Iriga, the hometown of the senator. They are already running from the de Lima ancestral house and expect to finish at the same place.

More than 300 leaders and organizations from all over the world are expected to issue indignation statements to protest Senator de Lima’s plight. These leaders will also call on the Duterte administration for her eventual and speedy release from jail.

Aside from former president Aquino, other signatories include Vice President and drug czarina Leni Robredo, Hongkong activist Joshua Wong and Ambassador of Taiwan, Maysing Yang. (with reports from Ricky Xavier of PCM)
