UST outlasts UP, forces do-or-die match for 2nd UAAP men’s basketball Finals berth

MANILA, Philippines – University of Santo Tomas has repeated its 82nd UAAP men’s basketball tournament elimination round mastery of University of the Philippines as the Growling Tigers prevailed anew over the UP Maroons, 89-69, Sunday, 10 November 2019, at Araneta Coliseum.

And so, the Growling Tigers lived to fight another day after they forged a do-or-die rubber-match for the last UAAP finals berth over the twice-to-beat Fighting Maroons.

Season MVP Soulemane Chabi Yo led the Growling Tigers with 17 points on top of 15-rebound to go along with four steals and two assists.

Mark Nonoy had 16 points, four assists, four rebounds, and two steals while Sherwin Concepcion had 12 markers of his own.

CJ Cansino added 11 points and three rebounds while Renzo Subido contributed eight markers and 12 assists.

Juan Gomez de Liano turned in his best game of the season with 20 points while Bright Akhuetie had 19 markers and 18 boards in a double-double performance for the Fighting Maroons. (Lloyd Tagbago/IAMIGO/CNS)
