Assisted by local officials, DOH-CALABARZON Director Dr. Eduardo Janairo lights the giant torch, symbolic of Polillo Island's highly-successful drive against the disease and is now certified 100 percent TB Free. The DOH also distributed wheelchairs to senior citizens and PWDs of Polillo, an island found in the northeastern region of the Philippine archipelago subdivided into three municipalities namely Polillo (southern part), Burdeos (northeastern part) and Panukulan (northwest). The island is also home to the Butaan lizard, a vulnerable relative of the Komodo dragon. A 2010 census reveal the island is home to 64,802 individuals. (Benjie Cuaresma/IAmigo/CNS)
