PAGASA: LPA develops into tropical depression Henry
Quezon City, Philippines – The low pressure area — inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, off the West Southwest coast of Abucay, Bataan — that is being tracked by the Philippine astronomical geophysical services administration (PAGASA) has intensified into a tropical depression.
As the nation’s eighth tropical depression of the year, it was given the local moniker “Henry” for the first time this July.
In a bulletin that was issued by PAGASA during their 5AM weather advisory, signal No. 1 was raised over portions of the Lubang Islands, Bataan, and Zambales on Wednesday, July 1.
“The wind signals warn the public of the general wind threat over an area due to the tropical cyclone. Local winds may be slightly stronger/enhanced in coastal and upland/mountainous areas exposed to winds. Winds are less strong in areas sheltered from the prevailing wind direction.” PAGASA warned.
As of 10 a.m., the center of Tropical Depression HENRY was estimated based on all available data at 240 km West Southwest of Abucay, Bataan (14.2 °N, 118.3 °E ). It has gusts of up to 55 kph and a maximum persistent wind speed of 45 kph in the vicinity of the center. At a speed of 25 kph, the tropical depression is heading northwest.
“Tropical Cyclone HENRY and the Southeast Monsoon are now less likely to bring significant rainfall over the western section of Southern Luzon. However, scattered rain and thunderstorms may still be experienced over MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, Zambales, Bataan, Cagayan, Isabela, Batangas, Basilan, and Tawi-tawi within the next 24 hours. The PAGASA Regional Services Divisions will continue to issue thunderstorm advisories, rainfall advisories, heavy rainfall advisories, and heavy rainfall warnings as necessary.” PAGASA said in their final advisory.
With the continued notices about the weather, Henry is predicted to continue moving away from the nation’s mainland while generally heading west-northwest, exiting the country on Thursday.
