CABANATUAN CITY — The inaugural “1st Daguit” Sportsfest, led by Acting Provincial Director Police Colonel Heryl “Daguit” Bruno, kicked off with a beauty pageant for the muses of participating basketball teams on Thursday, December 4, 2025.

The event participated in from police forces across Nueva Ecija, covering its 27 towns and 5 cities, each led by their respective Chiefs of Police.

Player participants included national police forces, such as the Highway Patrol Group and the Provincial Mobile Force Company. The sportsfest aims to build stronger bonds and camaraderie ahead of the holiday season, PD Bruno told media during an interview held at the PNP headquarters gymnasium.

A panel of judges, which included PD Bruno himself, Mayor Aries Vincent Patrick Gaboy Lim, and Bb. Nueva Ecija Alyssa Marie Geronimo, were captivated by the memorable punch lines delivered by several candidates during the pageant.

Princess Jimenez, representing the 4th District of Nueva Ecija, was named winner and received a P25,000 cash prize. Almira Mangila secured 2nd place and received P20,000, while Elyza San Antonio took 3rd place with a P15,000 prize.

Jimenez captured the hearts of the judges and the audience with her punch line, leveraging the Provincial Director’s nickname “Daguit” and the Tagalog word for eagle: “PD, Agila ka ba? kasi na Daguit mo ang muse na maganda.” The crowd, particularly the police personnel, erupted in huge roars and laughter.

The Provincial Director is a member of the Eagle fraternity in the province, under the leadership of businessman Monching Cecilio’s Cabanatuan Chapter.

Another candidate delivered a similarly humorous punch line directed at Mayor Gaboy, a well-known bachelor: “Mayor, gusto mo bang maging Pulis? kasi gusto kong magpa-assign sa puso mo.” This remark drew loud cheers and laughter from the crowd and members of her police basketball team.

Each candidate in the pageant received a P3,000 cash prize, according to Police Major Frank Sindac, the police information officer.

After the competition, interactions continued behind the scenes, where many candidates chatted and took photos with Mayor Gaboy, whom they noted is supposedly searching for his fiancée.

Dinner was served after the event at the invitation of Nueva Ecija Provincial Police Director Police Colonel Heryl “Daguit” L. Bruno.
