SP Escudero Questions Pro-Impeachment Motive

On Tuesday, Senate President Francis Escudero questions the motives of those who are in favor of the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.

“Are you truly for accountability or simply anti-Duterte? Do you truly respect and want to preserve the Constitution or you simply hate the Vice President?… Are you fighting for truth or are you simply after revenge? Do you really want a trial or you just want a conviction?”. Asked the SP

Escudero stressed that Supreme Court’s ruling should be respected.

“To disregard the [Supreme Court’s] ruling would not only defy the Constitution. It would drag the nation into a crisis it cannot afford. It would erode the authority of our laws” Escudero added.

In a vote of 19-4-1 the Senate has archived the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.

The decision caused controversy to those who seeks accountability.

Senate Minority Floor Leader Vicente Sotto III stated that the case may have been put to rest.

“I know for a fact, once it is archived, it is dead” said Sotto.

 Senator Alan Peter Cayetano addressed the critics of the VP, to just challenge her in the 2028 Elections.

The move by the Senate regarding the impeachment, as viewed by many may boost Duterte’s chance in the next election.
