The European Union or the EU releases a total of €500,000 in humanitarian aid to flood victims in the Philippines, particularly in areas of Calabarzon and Central Luzon. The funding is available via the European Commission’s European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO).
The aid is to provide emergency relief and shall be distributed for cash assistance in addressing food security and other basic needs such as access to clean water and sanitation facilities.
The fund is an addition to the €6 million humanitarian aid and disaster preparedness for The Philippines.
By the second half of July, The Philippines was hit by three tropical cyclones which worsen the effects of the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat which brough floods on the streets of Metro Manila and affected the provinces near the Capital Region.
The EU is a top trading partner of The Philippines, and both maintains a strong relationship in terms of economy and development cooperation.
Both parties are actively working towards a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (FTA) to further boost trade and investment. The third round of negotiations took place in Brussels in June 2025.
