Election 2025 Shocker: Why Did VP Sara’s Endorsed Candidates Lose Despite Strong Polls?

In this episode of Sa Totoo Lang with Ricky Rivera, we dive deep into the surprising partial and unofficial results of the 2025 Philippine elections. The wide gap between pre-election surveys and actual vote counts has left many Filipinos puzzled — especially over the losses suffered by candidates endorsed by Vice President Sara Duterte, despite early predictions from pollsters and political analysts.

According to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), as of May 13, 97.5% of election returns have been transmitted, with around 56.06 million Filipinos casting their votes. Leading the senatorial race are Bong Go, Bam Aquino, and Bato Dela Rosa, followed closely by Kiko Pangilinan, Rodante Marcoleta, and Tito Sotto completing the top 12.

The episode also explores the shifting priorities of Millennial and Gen Z voters, who are increasingly basing their choices on performance, integrity, and accountability rather than traditional endorsements. We also analyze the key roles played by grassroots movements, local campaign machinery, and political branding in influencing voter behavior.

The rise of progressive candidates in this election may signal a transformative shift in the Philippine political landscape — a move away from entrenched political dynasties and towards leaders with clear platforms and public trust.

Tacloban School Shooting: The Problem Isn’t Video Games–It’s the...

The Philippines has once again responded to a tragedy involving young people with a familiar reflex: panic first, think later. Following the shooting involving students in Tacloban, attention has quickly shifted toward online games, social media, and a proposed Senate inquiry. The implication is clear. Somewhere inside a computer screen lies the explanation for why young Filipinos would commit violence against one another. It is a comforting theory. It is also probably the wrong one.
