BBM’s Declining Ratings Due to Lack of Compassion for the Filipino People
The controversial issue surrounding President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s plummeting trust and approval ratings, reportedly down to just 17% according to an internal survey, was discussed. The public criticized the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) for seemingly disregarding the survey results and pushing statements that contradicted the sentiments of ordinary Filipinos.
The importance of survey methodology, the impact of random sampling, and the credibility of the results in measuring the true feelings of the people were highlighted. Negative ratings are not merely fake news or the work of trolls—they reflect the genuine experiences of citizens facing slow, chaotic, and corrupt public services.
The discussion also focused on problems within public services such as passport and permit processing, issues with rising food prices due to cartels, and the controversial role of media and online discourse in giving a voice to the concerns of Filipinos.
Additionally, the government’s communication strategy was critiqued—rather than focusing on improving its image, it should learn from the data and address the public’s complaints directly.
