Super typhoon Pepito will smash in Manila by Sunday 2pm

With winds up to 195 km/h, Super Typhoon Pepito (with international name
“Man-yi”) will hit Metro Manila, Calabarzon, and Central Luzon by Sunday noon, November 17. Satellite images by ZOOM Earth Tracker show severe weather warnings, possibly inundating huge parts of Luzon from Sunday until Monday.

Weather advisory no. 37 of our Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA says it’s possible that Signal no. 5 will be declared the moment Pepito crosses Metro Manila towards its exit unto the West Philippine Sea (WPS)

The weather bureau also expects moderate to high-risk-to-life storm surges, with estimated peak heights of three meters, to occur within the next 48 hours in Southeastern Quezon, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, northern Masbate, including the Burias and Ticao Islands, northern Samar, eastern Samar, Samar, and northern Biliran.

Expect very rough to high seas with estimated heights of over 8 meters at the eastern seaboard of Eastern Samar and Northern Samar, while 4-meter high waves are expected in the east of the seaboard of Catanduanes, Albay, and Sorsogon; the northern seaboard of Northern Samar. Hence, sea travel is risky for all types or tonnage of vessels. All mariners must remain in port or, if underway, seek shelter or safe harbor as soon as possible until winds and waves subside.

Weather forecasters expect Pepito to move generally west northwestward within the next five days. It will likely land in Catanduanes by tomorrow evening (Saturday) or early morning Sunday, November 17.

When it generally moves west-northwestward on Sunday, it will pass over the landmass of Bicol Region, Quezon, Central Luzon provinces, and Pangasinan before emerging over the West Philippine Sea on Sunday evening or Monday (18 November) morning. Forecasters expect the typhoon to weaken as it passes through the Sierra Madre Mountain range. Nevertheless, it will traverse the country as a typhoon and may only be downgraded into a severe tropical storm once it is over the West Philippine Sea on Monday.

Forecasted Position for the next 3 days (PAGASA)
