Trump wounded in political rally; Biden condemns “cowardly” attack

on

Former U.S. President Donald Trump got wounded when a bullet grazed his right ear as he spoke during a rally in Pennsylvania. The rally was in preparation for the Republican convention by next week. Despite what happened to Trump, the Republican Party says their convention for the official nomination of their presidential candidate this November will proceed as scheduled.

U.S. President Joe Biden has condemned the attack, calling it a cowardly act, while former First Lady Michelle Obama says that violence has no place in American politics. The justice secretary meanwhile says this is an attack against American democracy.

As of press time, Trump is reportedly out of danger and “safe.” The Trump camp congratulates security agencies and promises that their candidate will attend the Milwaukee convention this week. Republicans describe the event as “horrific” and “a sad reminder of how violent certain people are and our inability to stop it.”

“Tragic”, says a Republican spokesperson. “There’s obviously sick people out there..who don’t care about people’s lives… sad. ”

A gunman was reported dead after getting shot in the head. An audience member was killed, while several were injured. Secret Service investigators described this as an “assassination attempt.”

The gunman reportedly fired in an elevated position. The bullet got Trump in his right ear, but it just wheezed by. CNN says the weapon used by the assassin has the capability of firing a shot 200 to 300 meters away from the intended target. CNN says the shooter shot Trump clearly from a close vantage point. It was only because of the prompt intervention of the Secret Service agents and a former soldier averted the possible death of Trump.

Authorities are investigating the identity of the gunman. Investigators are looking if this incident is part of a bigger plan to destabilize the upcoming US elections.

Several analysts have stated that this assassination attempt demonstrates the increasing division within American society leading up to the presidential elections. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) intends to elevate the threat of terrorism levels.
