Independence Day in the Philippines commemorates the declaration of independence from Spanish rule on June 12, 1898. This historic event, led by General Emilio Aguinaldo, is a cornerstone of Filipino identity and a reminder of the sacrifices made for the nation’s sovereignty. The flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremonies are symbolic acts of respect and remembrance for these pivotal moments and figures in Philippine history.

The festivities extended over three days, starting from June 10 at the Quirino Grandstand and Burnham Green. These events included the Parada ng Kalayaan (Freedom Parade) on June 12, featuring 22 floats representing various provinces. This colorful parade showcased the rich cultural diversity and traditions of the Philippines. Filipino girl group BINI performed after the parade, adding a modern twist to the celebrations.

In addition to these events, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) organized various activities that aimed to educate the public about the historical significance of Independence Day.
