Crispin Diego “Ping” Remulla, son of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, won the special congressional elections for Cavite’s seventh district, the Commission on Elections said on Sunday.

Remulla will fill the vacated congressional seat by his father who took over the post of Justice Secretary.

He ran under the National Unity Party, and beat three other independent candidates by garnering a total of 98,474 votes in Trece Martires City and the municipalities of Amadeo, Indang, and Tanza.

His closest was Melencio de Sagun, Jr. who garnered 46,530 votes; followed by Jose Angelito Domingo Aguinaldo with 1,610; and Michael Angelo Bautista Santos with 1,068 votes.

According to Comelec Chairman George Garcia the special election on Saturday was “very peaceful.”

For his part, Comelec spokesperson Rex Laudiangco said the voter turnout for the special polls was at 42.11%.

This represents 149,581 votes out of the 355,184 registered voters in Cavite’s seventh district.
